Nira Oni +

What is Nira Oni?

Nira Oni is an English Ao Oni fangame developed by All Levels At Once and Xin, released in 2013. It remains one of the best Ao Oni fangames to date.

In this game, you play as Hiroshi, a 19-year-old biology student who has entered an abandoned hospital with his friends. As a man of science, he believes that monsters cannot exist, but very soon his views will be proven wrong.

Solve puzzles and run from monsters, search for a way out, and try to save your friends, though success is not always guaranteed. The game has 3 endings, with the best one being quite difficult to achieve. Will you manage to get out of the abandoned hospital? You'll have to play the game to find out.

What is Nira Oni +?

Nira Oni + is a project aimed at improving the original game. It fixes bugs, updates graphics, adds more content, stuff like that. So far, no major changes have been made - only some quality-of-life updates. If you want to download the original version, here’s the link: https://nira-oni.tumblr.com/

Please note that save files from the original Nira Oni cannot be transferred to Nira Oni +, and vice versa.

Full List of Changes (spoilers):

Bugfixes:

• Poison is now easier to find. Also fixed an important bug related to its random disappearance.
• Fixed an issue where a cutscene could start while the player was still moving, leading to broken movement.

Oni:

• Oni sprites have been improved.
• One cheezy strat during Oni chases has been fixed.
•  Oni can now appear in more locations.
• Nira Mushi has been significantly nerfed (I also plan a complete rework of them in the future).

Controls: 

• Controls are now consistent: the Z key always works like the Spacebar, and the X key always works like CTRL.
• The X key can now skip text, just like in Ao Oni.
• Added gamepad support. (Warning: some players may experience crashes when entering the main menu due to weak gamepad connections. Sorry about this — I’m working on a fix, but it currently seems to be an engine limitation.)

Miscellaneous:

• Text no longer extends beyond the textbox.
• Endings’ textboxes have been adjusted to look better.
• Trophies have been added to show which endings you got.
• Ending screens have been redesigned to look less ugly.

Future plans: 

• Translations: Spanish, Russian, Korean and Japanese.
• Settings menu.
• New campaigns.
• New walkthrough guide (the official one was lost unfortunately).
